History of KMTF

In 1998

by a Resolution of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the maritime shipping company Kazmortransflot was established.

In 2003

The company commissioned its first tugboat, "KMTF-1," and began constructing the Marine Operations Support Base.

In 2004

KMTF commissioned its first barges, KMG-101 and KMG-102, marking an important milestone in the company's development.

In 2005

The domestic fleet was expanded with new tankers "Astana" and "Almaty," as well as additional barges, enabling the expansion of maritime transportation.

In 2006

The company's fleet grew to 14 vessels with the addition of the tanker "Aktau," tugboats "Еsil" and "Tobol," and four barges from the KMG series.

In 2007

KMTF launched a program to develop Kazakhstani personnel for the tanker fleet and achieved certification under international standards ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001.

In 2008

The company began operating in open seas and became a co-founder of the Association of Entrepreneurs of Maritime Transport.

In 2009

A safety management system was implemented, and by 2010, the company introduced its own technical management. By 2011, the fleet numbered 21 vessels, and KMTF received the status of National Maritime Carrier.

In 2013

Tankers "Altai" and "Alatau" were added to the fleet, allowing the company to enter the international market. Shipping operations also began in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea.

In 2015

The company was certified by the International Maritime Forum (OCIMF). In 2016, contracts were signed to expand TCO FGP projects, and in 2017, three barges (MCVs) - "Barys," "Berkut," and "Sunkar" - and three tugboats - "Irgіz," "Talas," and "Emba" - were constructed, reaching a historic peak of 27 vessels.

In 2018

KMTF joined the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) Association.

In 2019

The company signed a navigation agreement with the EAEU and launched the feeder line "Aktau - Baku - Aktau," fostering international transportation development.

In 2020

Major TCO FGP projects were completed, and previously acquired MCVs were converted into container ships for operation within TITR.

In 2023

KMTF signed a joint venture agreement with Abu Dhabi Ports Group and commissioned tankers "Taraz" and "Liwa," significantly strengthening the company's position in the international market.

In 2024

KMTF achieved record performance figures:
– oil transportation: 13.2 million tons;
– container cargo transportation: 51.4 thousand TEU.

In 2025

KMTF achieved a record result in container cargo transportation — 59.4 thousand TEU.
In cooperation with the Kazakhstan Maritime Academy at KBTU, a new four-year educational program for future Kazakhstani seafarers was launched. Ten future seafarers from the first cohort were selected to participate in the program.
